Merger with Macy's
Filene's had been a Boston-based department store since 1881, and its suburban branches primarily competed with Jordan Marsh, its rival Bostonian brand. Macy's acquired Filene's in 2005 and rebranded all of its stores under the Macy's nameplate in 2006.

Closing
After declining sales and a tragic homicide in 2016, Macy's closed the old Filene's store in 2017.
